Topic: Abortion in the United States
For my project, I chose to look at abortion. At first I had little to no knowledge on the topic, and wanted to expand my knowledge on it. I learned that abortion is a very controversial topic and that it was a lot more than just a woman not wanting or not ready to have a child. Below, it can be seen what I did for each of the three subjects and how it all relates to abortion.
- English
For the English portion of my project I decided to write an essay about what Roe versus Wade was and its impact and legacy on abortion. I also explained the basic definition of abortion and what the different views on abortion were as well. Since the thinking skill for this project was contextualization, I used re-contextualization in my essay. I looked at Roe vs Wade at its initiation versus Roe vs Wade in a more modern context. At first I didn't realize the two major sides of abortion and I learned that they were pro-life and pro-right. Overall, researching for and writing this informative essay helped me learn and understand what abortion was. This essay made me realize how abortion plays a huge role today, affecting things such as who people might vote for. The essay I wrote about abortion can be viewed on the right.

- Social Studies
For the Social Studies aspect of my project, I looked at a current case that involved abortion. The one that I chose to use was in Mississippi concerning the "heartbeat" law, one that argued that women should be able to get an abortion even after a heartbeat could be felt. This is because most of the time the woman didn't know she pregnant during this stage of pregnancy. I incorperated conteaxualization into this by making my decision based off of views of abortion in the 1990's. Since views were more sided to pro-choice during this time, I chose the side that would be more towards that belief. My social studies piece can be viewed on the right.

- ArtLastly, for the art section of my project I created popular foods from each decade going from the 1970's to the 1990's. I did this to represent how food trends have changed over the years just like views on abortion have. A popular food in the 1970's was chicken and waffles, which I made. Views on abortion during this time period were strongly for pro-choice. This was because abortion was legalized in Roe versus Wade in this time and many people felt women had the right to do what they wanted with their body. The food I chose to make that was popular in the 1980's was table side guacamole. During this time the views on abortion were still heavily pro-choice, though more pro-life supporters rose during this time. Finally, the 1990's popular food was fajitas. This is much different from the starting meal, chicken and waffles. The views in the 90's were starting to shift more towards pro-life, the sides more balanced now. As it can be seen, food trends and views on abortion have both changed very much over time.
